I am a furniture and design fanatic, I collect and sketch design pieces that I see and inspire me.
‘The Nina Bookshelf’, made my be, is a mix of my love for the ‘Casablanca’ bookshelf, and my constant exploration for symmetry and excitement in interior design pieces. The colors of the books sitting on the bookshelf is my favorite part here, and how the shelves are different lengths. This is just a simple sketch of an idea I had in my head, but I want to improve it further.
The original sketch that inspired me to draw ‘The Nina Bookshelf’ is below. It is inspired by the bookshelf ‘Casablanca’, from 1981.
I recently saw a documentary about the Memphis Collective on the Swedish channel Kunskapskanalen, I was immediately drawn to some of the Memphis designs, grabbed my sketchbook and started drawing it straight away. I love its’ simple straight lines, how smoothly symmetrical it is, and of course, its vibrant colors that make it such a fun piece of design to contemplate, study and enjoy.
I just want to fill it up with things, like I did in my sketch!
Furniture is definitely what I enjoy drawing the most, exploring different possibilities and designs, always with strong attention payed to the colors of the piece.
